My name is Fiona
When I heard of the massive cuts being made across Cornwall, we would in future have only very basic help towards our Parks, gardens and town flower beds.
I decided to try and help Penzance, and formed The Penzance Community Flora Group in 2011. Penzance Town Council is right behind us, and helps to fund the group.
We are responsible for certain areas and parks in Penzance. We tidy and weed St Anthony’s Garden on the Prom. We grow and plant up the hanging baskets, and tiered planters, for Causeway Head, and hanging baskets for other retail outlets around the town. We have recently purchased 4 large planters.
We plant and tend St Johns Hall flowerbed, the Library flower bed, the large round bed outside Penzance Railway Station entrance, the flower beds around the Clerks office, and we encourage retailers, ie Albert Smiths have taken on the two large adjoining flower beds.
We are working alongside CORMAC because we do need all the help we can. Their gardeners are stretched to the limit. They cut the grass, look after the flowerbeds on roads which are considered dangerous, the bypass and the roundabouts.
Would you like work with us to make Penzance a flower friendly sea side town ? You may only have one or two hours to spare, but any time given would be most welcome.
We meet once a month, usually on the second Tuesday of every month, at Waves Restaurant in Causeway Head in Penzance. Please ring me on 01736 365501 to confirm dates of meetings.
If you love Penzance and take pride in the town we would welcome you to come and work with us. Contact Fiona on 01736 365501. There is an answerphone.
